About

I earned my B.A. in Art at San Diego State University. Art (Ceramics, Metal and Fiber emphasis areas ) / Anthropology and Native American Studies were my areas of study. My background in Anthropology with a focus in Southwestern Ethnography coupled with lots of Native American artist friends led to a deep appreciation and love for the art work produced there. While at San Diego State I had the opportunity to study / Jewelry fabrication / Fiber Art / Ceramics and Printmaking all which influence and trickle down into my pieces. I have always preferred working with fiber, metals and clay.

My creative roots? Well, they came from my mother. Irene Schmidt was a fashion illustrator and sculptress. At an early age she taught me how to draw, sew, sculpt and most importantly to use my imagination. Though she has long passed on, I thank her daily for giving me the opportunity as a child to be enriched by me these skills. She continues to inspire me to learn new techniques.

My career as a middle school art teacher has allowed me to pass my "artistic flame" if you will... to newer young artists who bend and shape my art projects and lessons in their own unique ways. As full time teacher, artist and craftswoman I'm never bored!

My ideas come from the world around me. Sometimes they reflect losses in life, but moreover, they are iconic representations of " my life dance” entwining elements from the Southwest / Native America / Mexico and other places. My pieces have their own special symbolism and energy. I use a variety of materials including repurposed metals, fabrics, and vintage jewelry items.

From my Reproduction Teddy Bears on through all the various items that I create- you'll find that each piece is unique. I've never been a "cookie cutter" make-in-mass type of artist each piece is always different.

My second ETSY store is the Blue Wolf Emporium it features quilting supplies, fabrics, patterns, vintage quilts, quilt tops and a lot of other fun things! Please check it out!

My life is blessed with the ability to be creative...who could ask for more!
