About

From the ripe old age of four I can remember sitting next to my mother's sewing table, watching in amazement and picking up the scraps that had fallen while she was making another fabulous creation from scratch.
At first I just collected them. I loved the patterns and textures and how each piece was wonderful on it's own but very different when mixed together.
After I had my ellaborate collection I started hand sewing pieces together mostly making clothing for my Barbies, then moving on to bigger dolls.
My collection grew from scraps of fabric to buttons and sewing notions then on to jewelry as well. All through grade school it continued and I even rode my bike to garage sales on the weekends in our neighborhood (and would sneak to the next).
By the time I reached junior high I had my very own jewelry box full of treasures.

High school was another story altogether. We were Girls now and that in the early 80s meant that we could wear anything from Madonna rubber bracelets to Marilyn Monroe rhinestone cuffs to Cindy Lauper bandana scarfs. Or of course all three together!
I still have my first pair of blue rhinestone screw back earrings that I had paid 10 cents for at a church rummage sale in New York in 1976. Although I do not wear them they are still in my jewelry box, top drawer, because they were the first spark to my long and wonderful journey of collecting, wearing and making jewelry and accessories.
Besides they were the very first GIRLY things that I ever owned!

Thanks for looking and I hope you find something Girly to cherish for your very own!
