About

I am an artist and illustrator based out of Tennessee. I have been blessed to live in such beautiful natural surroundings that provide a great deal of inspiration to my art. I spend much of my time gardening, hiking, playing with my dogs or showing off my newest blooming plants and trees to my husband (who so patiently humors me). I love all the seasons, but Fall is the best! The arts consume me in all their forms: visual, literary, performing, culinary, gardening...well, I consider gardening to be an art. Indoors or out, I am either creating or thinking about creating. I am intrigued and inspired by God's many wonders: my husband, my dogs, birds, trees, growing things of all kinds...

Artist Statement

My art combines the traditional idea of beautiful illustration and fine art paintings, focusing on active portraits that freeze the subject in a scene. I taught myself to draw from illustrated books, photographs, animation and movies I felt had great characters and movement. Painting became a natural extension of drawing and my style evolved using thick layers of rich color and texture. It has always been my opinion that art should tell a story, and not just be a random painting of a flower or bird, with no soul driving it. Without soul, there is nothing to relate to. It does not matter if the subject is a tree or a chipmunk, it should be leaping off the canvas, impossible to ignore. I hope that my paintings successfully tell the story and grip the viewer with the emotion of the moment.
