I've loved to knit and crochet ever since somebody's mom came to my fifth grade class and taught the girls to knit. We knitted triangle scarves, then slippers, then some of us who were hooked spent recess knitting headbands with the yarn left over from those projects. I started with the dishcloths after a lucky encounter with two lovely grandmotherly types in the yarn aisle at Woolworths. I was young and buying baby yarn, but one of the grandmothers said to me, "Do you ever make those old-timey dishrags? They work up real fast, you just add one stitch on each end till they're big as you want, then cast off. Lots of people like them, they're good for scrubbing." Twenty-five years later, they're still my favorites, great for scrubbing!
