About

Hi, Welcome to PuppyLoveQuilts. My name is Doris Claude and have been a quilter for many years. Most of my quilting has been to make gifts for all our children, their weddings, graduations, new homes and wall hangings for all occasions. Then came the grandbabies, all 16 of mine have gotten personalized baby quilts. Now I am working on great-grandbabies, 2 so far and another on the way.
In the meantime, I have decided to focus my talents on making cuddle quilts, snuggle bags and blankets for our adorable pets. My husband, Bruce and I have had dachshunds all our lives and simply adore them. Last summer we decided that our home was missing the love and happiness of a furry friend, so we looked into adopting a rescue dachshund. There are so many sad stories out there about unwanted pets. We found our first girl in the high desert of SoCal at a rescue place advertised on Adopt-A-Pet. She was a puppy mill dog that…

Hi, Welcome to PuppyLoveQuilts. My name is Doris Claude and have been a quilter for many years. She was a puppy mill dog that was deemed unfit to be bred and was on her way to be put to sleep, when she was rescued by a lovely young lady. We drove the 3 hours to pick her up the very next day and have not regretted it for one day! BUT, dachshunds are like potato chips.....you can't have just one.
A month later, we were looking at rescues again and came across another site that was holding an Adopt-a-thon the very next day about 45 miles away. Well, we just had to go see if we could find a brother or sister for Ladybug. Heidi joined our family that day. She was so scared and skinny. The rescue person said she was picked up along the road and turned into the Humane Society, where she was held for 10 days before being turned over to her. She said she wouldn't eat. They guessed her to be about 3 years old.
She is now the best thing to happen to all of us. She mothers Ladybug and loves to give hugs and kisses to both Bruce and me. She is so happy, that we have nicknamed her Wags, because her tail is always going!
After seeing what these poor babies have gone through in their short lives, I have a deep respect for all rescue groups and their foster families. I have since discovered a rescue group right here in San Diego County called 2nd Chance Dachshund Rescue. They not only rescue these dogs, they make sure they get all the medical attention and nourishing they need before they even consider adopting their dachshunds out. They check out every adopter to make sure the dogs are getting a good home. Therefore, I am donating 10% of all my sales to help them with their expenses.
