Dorrie Gilbert's Profile

About

I was a jewelry designer for many years in New York City where I worked for other designers and eventually for myself. The aesthetic of my jewelry has changed over time, though I currently feel a pull back to my roots where I began. In the beginning, the metal was textured, sculptural, and dark. I found inspiration in nature and from artifacts discovered in archeological digs.

So, here I am now, reinterpreting that old aesthetic, but in a new way. The influences are the same; what's different is the use of symbology -- both ancient and modern-- to infuse meaning. This is my intention. I create work that speaks through texture, sculpture, color, and symbology.
