Drift ....forever

One cold December weekend I hopped on a plane to Chicago to visit my best friend. After what proved to be a trip full of delays caused by the wrath of old man winter, I finally arrived at O’Hare International, tired and in no mood to take the 90 minute-long ride back to my friend’s apartment. “It’s absolutely freezing outside,” she said. “You better button up.” I laughed, “Oh come on, it’s snowing in New York, how much colder could it possibly be in Chicago?” Boy was I in for a surprise.

We left the airport and were immediately blasted by icy cold winds and bitter temperatures. In that very moment I wished for the warmth of a hat and scarf. A quick walk to the closest store produced the products I knew I needed but definitely didn’t want to buy at a pharmacy. Inside I found I had only two choices: a trio made up of an unfashionable, cheap looking gloves, hat and scarf or what once had been the same trio, in a different color that looked as if it had been stepped on by the entire staff. Reluctantly I bought the first set and immediately thought to myself, “if only I had my sewing machine.”

And so, donned in fashion tragedy, Drift was born.
