I am a Canadian currently living in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, after living for five years in the mountains of Utah. All of my training has been in Canada under some wonderful potters in the Hamilton area. The current work I display is from the trials and tribulations I have undergone in my makeshift studio. While not a beginner at this art, I often feel that way due to the overwhelming number of ways to work with both the clay and their glazes. The underlying constant in my work is that need to feel a connection with the environment I am surrounded by, or exposed to. Overall I strive to achieve a peaceful piece that is grounded, yet possesses an element of surprise, whether it be achieved using color, texture or an added element to the glaze.

Overall I strive to achieve a peaceful piece that is grounded, yet possesses an element of surprise, whether it be achieved using color, texture or an added element to the glaze.

All the work I undertake takes into account good operating procedures that minimize the impact on the surrounding environment. I use low fire clays in a well-packed kiln that is fired on days that minimizes time to fire and impact on air quality. The glazes used are lead-free, non-toxic and all products are dishwasher and microwave safe. As a water quality scientist I have an appreciation for the impact of this activity on the natural environment and take all steps available to utliize the materials to their full exten: such a reclaiming clay, minimizing disposal of glazes, and, combining failed peices at the glaze or leather hard stage to create a truly unique piece.

I love this art and want to share my love of it with you. After all, a potter can only fill their house with so many pieces before they spill over into the homes of others...
