Each year hundreds of children are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in North America - UNLIKE Type 2, diabetes Type 1 mostly occurs in young children and teens. UNLIKE type 2, it is autoimmune disorder and cannot be prevented or cured with healthy lifestyle or diet.
Our baby boy was only 9 months old when he developed type 1 Diabetes. What we thought was a bad case of flu turned out to be an onset of diabetic coma. He now needs 4-6 insulin injections EVERY DAY to survive and has to have his blood tested for glucose levels every 3-4 hours AROUND THE CLOCK for the rest of his life.
Perspective: The first thing many parents of type 1 children think in the morning is, 'Thank God my child made it through the night.'
