Each year hundreds of children are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in North America - unlike Type 2, diabetes Type 1 mostly occurs in young children and teens. Unlike type 2, it is autoimmune disorder and cannot be prevented or cured with healthy lifestyle or diet.
Our baby boy was only 9 months old when he developed type 1 Diabetes. What we thought was a bad case of flu turned out to be an onset of diabetic coma. He now needs 4-6 insulin injections EVERY DAY to survive and has to have his blood tested for glucose levels every 3-4 hours around the clock for the rest of his life.
Luckily, some of the brightest minds of our time are working on a cure right now and hopefully will get one in Sammy's lifetime. Please get involved, educate yourself and spread the word to others:
