About

I am an artist/art educator, who has lived, exhibited, and taught all over the country. My business is called "The Whole Createive Process." I believe that every stage in the creative process is equally important, and this philosohpy is represented not only in my teaching, but in my artwork.

The act of creating art takes me away from the limitations of my thinking and everyday life. Totally involved in the art process, I slip into a world self-made, where everything I do, every struggle or exploration, even each mistake-brings me excitement and rewards. The alchemy of making and altering papers intrigues and challenges me. Collage allows me to combine these and other materials-the perfect medium to capture a personal shorthand of my life.

After the death of many loved ones in my life, I realized that as I expressed my emotions in artmaking, sorrow and frustration were validated and transformed into positive new aspects of my artwork. I saw that it was up to me to seek out every small event, encounter or even a fleeting observation to celebrate. It is this transformative power-the ability of art to empower and uplift-which I try to pass on to the viewer.

My speciality is collage/painting. I have coined the term "emprinted" to describe the result of my immersing heavy papers into a dye bath of permanent color and adding natural or man-made objects which act as resists. These additions create "prints" on the paper-sometimes in the negative; sometimes in the positve. The resulting design is printed all the way through-not merely on the surface of the paper as in printmaking. Therefore, I feel the word "imprinted" isn't sufficient to describe the process.

In addition to my collage work, I have a serious of woodburning pieces, featuing Hawaiian flowers, drawn while I was visiting my daughter in Kauai.
