These figurative pieces have been my main artistic expression since 1989, when I turned my attention from decorative wrought iron to sculpture. Using the same material I had been using to fabricate fireplace screens, I began exploring a world where the industrial bumps up against the ethereal. With this process I have come to know the incredible expressive potential of a medium most people, artists included, have never heard of. Created by hand, one at a time, without the use of molds or models, these sculptures come from my years of studying the human form through life drawing and carving in wood and clay. They share my fascination with the human form, and the human history of image-making in and around that form.
