About

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work straddles a line between pure abstraction and representational imagery. Each painting gives a sense of place or object even though no specific or definable imagery is actually present. I want the viewer to see each piece through their own eyes and see what they are “reminded of” from their own lives and experiences.

I find my inspiration in nature and manmade structures – anything from the soft color of a seaside landscape, to the stark outline of a city skyline, to the chaotic patterns of roadside powerlines.

I am always looking for patterns and combinations of colors, shapes, and line. I have more interest in small details separated from the whole.

I strive to create a tension between scale and spatial relationships. I want each piece to give both the sense of standing before a vast landscape or of peering through a microscope.

I do not start a painting with an intended ending. I create by building layer upon layer, responding to the interesting marks that develop during the process, attempting to create a sense of depth and space.
