Lois McManus' Profile

About

Hi, I'm Lois. I'm originally from Lewes, Delaware near Cape Henlopen, and a big chunk of my heart aches to live there still. *sigh*

I love beaches especially my home town, and also Cape Cod, Massachusettes.

I love scavenging for wampum (quahog shell), and beach pebbles, and I never tire of finding a new precious pebble with a color or shape that I MUST pick up and roll around in my fingers, imagining the possibilities of what could be done with such a perfect creation, a gift from the sea.

I LOVE playing with fire. In that tiny moment of time where the metal flows into liquid, I find Nirvana. I'm at peace when creating with metal and fire. The little jolt upon awakening from my muse when the smoke detectors go off, is the sweet music to my soul. Yes, it's an…

The little jolt upon awakening from my muse when the smoke detectors go off, is the sweet music to my soul. Yes, it's an addiction......*smiles sheepishly*.

My love of jewelry design started with my own desire for unique, original jewelry that is earthy, unpretentious, and organic. I love abstract design, and my art background has helped me to create jewelry that has interesting balance and composition.

Other bits of me:
I love whitewater kayaking, cross-country skiing, catching turtles, and my little log home on Evitts Creek in the mountains of Western Maryland. I often think of the native people who treasured the beaches and woods that I do. I wonder I share the same feelings of awe and respect for the simple treasures of the planet we live on, and care deeply about preserving that beauty and sharing that appreciation.
