I use my camera to make observations of the natural world in an artistic manner. I capture the true essence of the subject and not just what the casual observer may witness. I photograph because I want to see what I can’t easily see. I use a macro lens to capture colors and textures such as the patterns woven into the head of an unfurling fern or a drop of water on a tulip petal or the rainbow caught in an early morning spider web. I take photographs when I can’t find a way to say what I want with words. Photographs can portray emotions better than words. I have always found solace in the natural world and through my work; I portray my immense connection with the natural world in a manner that others may understand. When photographing, I clear my mind of worries such as my job, relationships and bills. When photographing, I clear my mind of worries such as my job, relationships and bills. I am constantly keeping track of the natural world around me, not only by looking but also by listening, smelling and just feeling the landscape around me. This sometimes means I crawl on the ground, climb trees, tromp through mud and patiently wait while mosquitoes sample me. Minor physical discomforts do not matter; the important thing is capturing a beautiful moment in nature.
