fattycakes began in 2007 as a creative side project for artist and crafter Jordan Sandlin. With a desire to create handmade crafts, using simple materials and techniques, the first few fattycakes critters were born! Jordan inherited a love of sewing from both her grandmothers and her great-grandmother. With the belief that there is power and thoughtfulness in the handmade object, Jordan creates hand-sewn felt creations…a modern take on the nostalgia of sewing with her family.
The fattycakes line includes many different irreverent characters including robots, cacti, octopi, whales, faux bois logs and stumps, toast and poop. The cast of characters in the fattycakes line have a few things in common….irreverence, nostalgia, and kitsch. Many different types of felts are used including wool felt and eco-felt (made from post-consumer plastics) as well as vintage buttons and bits…
