I originally opened this little Etsy shop to sell my hand-stitched items and original patterns and kits. But after a few months, it occurred to me that my shop would be the perfect place to offer fabulous, high quality merino wool felt from Europe. The same kind that I use in many of my own creations. Before I knew it, the felt was a hit with crafters all over the world. So now, I barely have time to stitch! But here's a few words about how I got started:

I originally opened this little Etsy shop to sell my hand-stitched items and original patterns and kits. But after a few months, it occurred to me that my shop would be the perfect place to offer fabulous, high quality merino wool felt from Europe. The same kind that I use in many of my own creations. Before I knew it, the felt was a hit with crafters all over the world. So now, I barely have time to stitch! But here's a few words about how I got started:

One day I found a proverb in a fortune cookie that said "wherever you go, whenever you can, leave a gift". That sentiment, combined with my love of handwork, is the inspiration for my "gift-able" designs. I believe in simple imperfect stitches, giving new life to old things, keeping an open mind and learning a new trick or two.

The phrase "on the fly" means something that is created when needed; something that wasn't planned out ahead of time, or something that starts out one way, but changes direction in the process. That's how I design, and that's the inspiration behind the name Felt on the Fly.

Maybe I should mention that I got interested in wool over a decade ago (starting in 1998)...and that led to in-depth research into it's history and cultural impact through the centuries. I've collected wool felt from all over the world and I willingly admit that I now possess a scary amount of information about this fiber.

I'm so pleased that Felt On The Fly appears in many craft books, magazine articles, blogs and tutorials as the 'go to' source for quality wool felt.

I now have a brick-and-mortar wool felt stitchery shop in the Village of Oxford, Michigan. It's a warm, inviting, comfortable space with a distinct vintage vibe. If you come visit, I hope you'll sit and stitch a while. My shop features all 112 colors of wool felt as seen here in my Etsy shop, specialty felts that are uniquely dyed, books, Felt On The Fly kits, patterns, wool felt die-cut shapes, flosses, threads, handmade gifts....

Some other things you may or may not want to know about me: I like classic muscle cars, football and hockey. I like banana cream pie but dislike banana bread. I don't believe in electric can openers. I think that all people are created equal at four-way stops. I like Joe Cocker and Van Morrison in their older years. I always have a book to read and more projects than I'll ever be able to finish on my sewing table.

Thanks for visiting my Etsy shop!

p.s. I have another account here called 'A Story To Tell' and some day, when I get around to it, I will fill it with wonderful vintage things. But for now, I've got my hands full of felty wool felt and that makes me deliriously happy : )

p.p.s. I also have an account called 'Pearly Moon Stitchery'. I plan to offer original, handstitched, giftable items there someday!
