footprint zero...how lightly can you tread?

In a perfect world, we'd all have a zero carbon footprint. In a realistic world, we can all do our part to tread as lightly as possible. footprint zero is a family cooperative were each bring to the table a strength towards this common goal. To make this vision a reality, we have pulled together our resources and expertise keeping mindful of the "footprint" we'd be leaving behind.

Taking discarded, recycled, surplus or vintage items and giving them a renewed purpose and home is what footprint zero is all about. There is no "one" item or product that you'll find in our store, but rather, a collection of our upcycled cigar box and vintage luggage items, repurposed housewares and decor, handmade plaques made from reclaimed or recycled wood and wine barrel staves or displaced vintage items looking for a new home.

Each time you visit footprint zero, you will be sure to find a new treasure, as our inventory will be dictated by what items present themselves for a renewed life. Even though you may see multiples of one particular product, each piece is "one of a kind" and handmade with precision. Each piece possesses it's own unique quality from the knot or grain in the wood, the various recycled electronic components, to the individuality of each home decor or vintage item. Our promise to you is not only quality and attention to detail, but an emphasis on producing each item with the lowest carbon footprint possible for that piece.

And, a little background on who we are:

The Electronic & Sound Guru, Tom, my husband, has always had an affinity for electronics, music, sound and engineering. Not to mention, he tested at the genius level as a child and has always needed a hobby to unleash that mental energy. Don't tell him I told you ;) From the age of seven, he has done everything from build a computer from recycled parts, a treasure box that lit up inside when opened and was equipped with an alarm, mastering beer-brewing to an absolute science, to custom handcrafted golf clubs and his own personal guitars. In addition, Tom has an incredible ear for sound balance and quality making sure that each piece is tuned for best performance. His never-ending fascination with gadgets accounts for the well-equipped, creative details on each "cigar box audio" piece which he also refers to as, "functional audio sculptures".

The Master Craftsman, Thomas, my dad, is a man that i have always described as the "jack of all trades". Literally. He is a true artisan in every sense. His skills range from building houses from the ground up, airbrushing t-shirts, cars, vans and anything else one could imagine (yes, our family was in a "Van Club" in the 70's), sandblasting signs, creating and constructing his own brick oven to make bread and pizza, to crafting quality plaques on reclaimed wood or wine barrel staves, LED glass sculptures, cabinets and staircases. If you are familiar with napa's wine country, specifically Rutherford, Thomas, was the "master carpenter" for the gorgeous palatial staircase with the hand carved grape pedestals at The Rubicon (the old Inglenook Winery), which is owned and operated by a world-famous movie director.

The Cook & Consultant, Joy, my mom, is the one you can always count on for encouragement, great advice, valuable input and history on vintage items and amazing food. She has been the backbone for our family in a variety of ways, both personally and professionally. Her ideas, input and advice are one of the many foundational parts of each piece we create and the well-being of the company as a whole.

The Visual Communicator, Jasmine, our daughter, conceptualized the branding, logo and artwork for footprint zero. She just graduated cum lade from the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco with a degree in Visual Communications. If interested, a portfolio of her work and contact information is available upon request for freelance work. Jasmine is not only creative, she has an intuitive way of zoning in on a concept, exploring and researching all aspects and taking it to a unique level. She likes diversity without clutter and simplicity without lacking details. Her portfolio is aptly named "Escaping Mediocrity Through Creative Rebellion".

The Multi-Tasker, Vicki, that's me :) I'm the one that wears a variety of hats including, but not limited to, project and web management, public relations and engaging my creative side on our repurposed/upcycled one-of-a-kind pieces along with re-homing yesterdays treasured vintage items. I love taking forgotten or ordinary baubles and giving them a renewed purpose or home. I've raised three daughters and have always to tried help them make their environment reflect who they are by embracing the magic of thrifting, reusing and recreating. Now that they are all adults, I have time to focus on creating and finding these pieces for our footprint zero store and ultimately for you. Hopefully ;)

Thanks so much for your interest in footprint zero. We invite you to check back regularly...we're just getting started and will be adding new items often.

Warmly,
the footprint zero family
:)
