About

Buzzing Bees Vintage is the child of my ever expanding closet, the baby of a life time of loving fashion and everything timeless. Everything that tells a story. Vintage clothing reveals our history, a piece of what brought us to where we are today. Fashion is a key to understanding the cultural norms and social order our histories are embedded in. I believe vintage gives you the ability to literally step into another's shoes, to move forward while freezing time. I love the feeling you get when you find a vintage piece that is so rare and individual, you know you have to have it, and that you will be the only one. The eccentric patterns, the intricate bead work, the silk embellishments, so much effort was once put into the creation of a single garment. Nothing mass produced, each piece is connected directly to the tailor. Uniquely theirs, and now uniquely yours.

I recently finished my degree in women's studies and sociology at McGill university. Fashion has always been a huge part of my life, but I believe it's my areas of study that have really opened up my eyes to the power of vintage fashion as a tool to transcend class barriers, inspire unique creativity, and help our environment. As a feminist (one who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of all sexes and genders) and a socially conscious person, I believe buying vintage is a modern twist to enjoying the expressiveness fashion can provide one with, while remaining slightly unhinged from the cheaply mass produced and often oppressive and expensive brand names. I never compromise on quality, and expect a silk or leather piece to last much longer than synthetics. An affordable price for something that is one on its own. Durability and longevity are the key to great fashion!
