Who is Gastu?
Guðrún Ásdís Sturlaugsdóttir, (G A STU), is the designer and producer of the Gastu products. Guðrún has been designing and sewing most of her life. Now she has moved back to her hometown which is a small fishing town in east cost of Iceland called Höfn in Hornafjörður.
About the products:
Most of Gastu products are made from fish skin leather. The fish skin is byproduct from the food industry, and it's fished in Atlantic Sea. The leather is tanned in Iceland. The salmon fishskin is exotic and unique material. It's thin but very strong compared to other hides. The scales follow a delicate, repeated pattern, but the most noticeable feature is the narrow band that runs along the centre of salmon fishskin. The fishskin looks in many way like snakeskin, but is in no danger of extinction.
