My hobby, lapidary, is making cabochons and faceting various stones as a member of a local lapidary club http://www.illawarralapidaryclub.com.au/. I prefer to make items using stones not normally seen in commercial jewelery. Generally my work is one of a kind, most in free form shapes. The settings are custom made by me specifically for an individual stone out of sterling silver wire, strip and plate.
I carry out custom orders using a customer's stone or one I have in stock. Rings with facetted stones are made using castings and these castings can be in silver or gold, obviously the gold is more expensive and can be from 9 k up to 18K.
My photographs usually show the item in my hand. It is the best way I know of ensuring a customer can see that there has not been any electronic tampering of colour and gives an indication of size.
