I paint, I write about painting, I teach painting, I do a bit of other stuff, then I paint........
I'm drawn to capture our glorious land and seascapes in pastel, charcoal and Indian ink. Once keeping these media quite separate, I'm finding that they're gradually beginning to merge and become more abstract and 'painterly'.
I spend hours with my subjects, drinking in the atmosphere, then work in my studio. I sometimes use a photograph or sketch to start from, but at some point, the painting takes over and and evolves, leaving the initial reference behind. I aim to capture the emotion of a scene, rather than to produce a purely literal response to it.
