About

There is art everywhere I look. I can't stop trying to capture shadows, patterns, colors and the unusual juxtaposition.

Until 1999, I had only snapshot cameras. I was planning a trip to the Galapagos and very quickly decided to buy a good camera without knowing anything about how to really shoot good photos. I bought an SLR, practiced with one roll of film (remember that stuff?), and went to see this amazing place, snapping 20 rolls of film and not having a clue what they'd look like until I came home.

These many years later I'm still in that discovery mode, but love that technology allows instant feedback. I switched to a digital SLR and happily snapped away with my telephoto and my macro for another decade.

Then I got a smart phone and My World. Changed. Again. My phone has become my most trusted view of the world. And I mostly stick to the Hipstamatic app. This little app creates different effects on my photos. Here's a little secret about me: I would never take photos with my SLR and take them into PhotoShop and "do" things to them. I want those photos to be exactly as I take them. No artsy frames or moody effects. But I truly adore what the Hipstamatic does to whatever it is I'm framing through that lens.

Here's what else I love: my SLR is big. And heavy. And I still use it. But my smart phone? I always have it with me and it's easy to use. So I am able to capture more surprising shadows, patterns, colors and juxtapositions than ever before.

I honestly feel giddy with the possibilities.

I live in Bellingham, Washington, a most gorgeous and inspiring part of the Pacific Northwest, but my husband and I also travel, particularly in the western US and in Hawaii and Mexico. But I find that a crack in the sidewalk just down the street is just as compelling as the textured walls of a colonial city worlds away.

Please enjoy these images and let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
