About

Hi'o! I am a long-time crafter and a newbie entrepreneur. I learned to craft from watching my mother do her crafts: sewing, quilting, crocheting, painting ceramics, and more. Growing up, I was able to expand as a crafter by finding room in my college schedule for art classes. I eventually switched my major from ASL Interpreting to Architectural Design where I discovered that as much as I enjoyed designing spaces and buildings, I loved building models of them even more.

Personally and professionally, I am inspired by my hometown, San Diego, CA, with its sunshine and the beautiful outdoors. A love and appreciation of nature has also translated into a desire to be environmentally friendly. This also inspired my shop name, girlandtree.etsy.com, because I love trees above all else in nature. Hi'o! I am a long-time crafter and a newbie entrepreneur. I learned to craft from watching my mother do her crafts: sewing, quilting, crocheting, painting ceramics, and more. Growing up, I was able to expand as a crafter by finding room in my college schedule for art classes. The name was more directly inspired by one of my favorite Greek myths, Daphne and Apollo, about a young woman who escapes the unwanted attention of the sun god, Apollo, when her father transforms her into a laurel tree.

Another aspect of loving trees is that one of my favorite materials to create with is paper, especially recycled paper.

I love making items to give as gifts. I find that I enjoy the gift giving process almost as much as the person getting the gift loves the item. It's a much more personal and meaningful exchange than buying a mass produced thing from a big box store that doesn't express how I feel for the giftee.

Convo me, I'd love to hear from fellow crafters. And follow me on Facebook: www.facebook.com/pages/girlandtreeetsycom/216168531789692
