I live in the middle of Europe; in Budapest, Hungary. I was born and raised in Transylvania, which region’s craft traditions give me a lot of inspiration ever since. My ancestors originating from different parts of the Carpathian basin had brought diverse cultural heritage into the family. The act of creation had a special respect in our family throughout the times. Many of the family members were/are artists; painters or sculptors, including my father, and the women in the family – even if they weren’t professional artists, they all loved to handcraft and to create beautiful items.

Myself, I am an architect, specialized in historic buildings and interior design. I love creating these small items, which you can see throughout my shop because they speak about my attraction to simple forms, to practical solutions and to a fine quality at a totally different scale. Moreover, in their case the whole process of the creation is in my own hands...

Working with beautiful natural fabrics, new and old, give me a lot of joy. I love the smell, the touch and the shine of natural materials, and I enjoy combining leftover pieces just as well as working with new fabrics. I spend a lot of time on searching for the right shape, function and the right combination of materials, which fit the most the character and the beauty of a certain fabric. This would result sometimes in weeks passing just by looking at the material and moving it form a corner to the other of the room before I start working with it. The models I make, usually emerge and evolve during their creation, which means that every piece becomes unique on its own.

In both architecture and sewing I like the simple and practical. I believe that very little things are enough to transform the atmosphere of a room and make it a home; that a few beautiful and at the same time practical items can enhance our comfort and can make us feel better.

This is me in my real life, in the middle of one of my architectural works: http://granatina.posterous.com/abszolut-jelen-ido
