About

I owe much of my creativity and skills to my mom who could make anything out of nothing and have it look perfect. She lost her battle against cancer when I was 20, but she lives on in everything I create. Originally from the SF Bay Area, I moved to Portland in 1999. I began making dolls around 2003 and sold them at the Astoria Saturday Market one summer. Life took over for several years and I didn't do much sewing.

After meeting my (now) husband, he encouraged me to start making them again and try to make a business out of it. I enjoy the escape that creating gives me. The process of taking random bits and figuring out how to make something with them. I like getting to know my characters as they come alive and take part in their own creation. Each of my characters is unique and one of a kind. There will never be duplicates made. I've tried making duplicates, and they never turn out that way. Each of my characters has a name, but please don't ask me to make a character with a specific name - they pick their own names. My characters can be handled, but are not made for play or for children. You can get to know more about my characters on my blog: http://gritsandgiggles.typepad.com/grits-and-giggles
