George Scatchard's Profile

About

I have been making pottery since I was a kid in grade school. What started out as fun, has become my life's work. I came to Vermont in 1960 right out of college to set up my first pottery shop, and have been having fun in the mud ever since. After over fifty years of making all kinds of pottery, by many different methods and teaching at the University of Vermont for several years, I designed and made a line of stoneware lamps that are sold nationally. I now make bowls and other pottery that I throw on the potter’s wheel. My hand thrown pottery is sold at my studio in Vermont and here at Etsy. After all these years, I especially enjoy making the bowls. The act of turning a nice bowl on the wheel seems to be good for my head.
