When I was a kid my dad found and collected antiques. I mean this quite literally - he'd go out into the bush and find old abandoned homesteads and then bring home the most marvellous things. He particularly liked old bottles. My favorite item was a complete set of handpainted eggshell china - so delicate the light shone through it. Some of it we kept. Other things he brought to the nearest antique store - a three hour drive from our small town.
Such old homesteads don't exist round here anymore. My passion for finding old things has to be content mostly with scouring thrift shops and garage sales and the like - and I can easily take up an afternoon doing this, so that is fine enough. I can usually discover a few treasures along the way.
