About

Hello, and welcome to HeartyCrafts. Thank you for stopping by and please enjoy looking around. I hope you will find something that you like.

My Inspiration

My interest in crafting began as a child when my mom taught me to knit and crochet.
Growing up in Africa I had a wonderful woman who took care of me and who was, in her spare time, an avid crafter of beautiful afghans, blankets and embroidered table cloths. Never happy to have idle hands, Violet became my inspiration when I became a mother and I found myself knitting and crocheting while my children played around me, just as I had played as a child around Violet.

My crafting has grown into a passion which sometimes borders on obsession.

As a minimalist wannabe, I enjoy simple, clean lines and designs and I embrace the philosophy of Less Is More.

Beautiful Things All Around

My desire to surround myself with beautiful handmade things has inspired me to teach myself beading, felting and watercolour and acrylic painting. I experience much pleasure from being surrounded by beautiful art, jewellery and wonderful woolly creations that I have made for myself and my family.

My hope is that the recipients of my crafted items will love my creations as much as I have loved making them. After all, it all comes from my heart, and that’s why I call my store HeartyCrafts.

The Process

I work mainly with pure wool and acrylic fibers for my slippers, purses, pouches, bags, hats, scarves and headbands. Most of the bags I make are lined. I enjoy the process of watching as pieces of knitted or crocheted fabric come together to make a unique item that someone will love.

All the items in my store are made with my own hands, and I strive to ensure that each piece is of a high quality.

The Legacy

Like my mom taught me, I have also taught my two young sons to knit, crochet and bead, and they have expressed a desire to create some items to contribute to this store. Hopefully I will feature their creations here soon.

All items are one of a kind and are made in a smoke free, pet free environment.
