Welcome to From Linen Press to Dress!

I produce one-of-a-kind garments made from upcycled goodies you’d expect to find in a linen press – from sheets to doilies to tablecloths and cushion covers, the options are boundless. My philosophy is based on waste reduction, ethical clothing manufacture and a love of feminine and vintage styles. I love that the fabric that goes into each garment I make had a completely different life previously and I use this in the design process, hanging the item on my wall until it forms itself into something in my mind. Using original patterns is a challenging but rewarding process and allows me to create unique pieces that are suited to the fabric. If you’ve got that item you can’t bear to part with, let me custom make it into a garment for you! I can be contacted via Etsy conversations or via Facebook at…

I produce one-of-a-kind garments made from upcycled goodies you’d expect to find in a linen press – from sheets to doilies to tablecloths and cushion covers, the options are boundless. MY BACKGROUND

Mum taught me to sew as a teen (many of my designs are based on her old fashion annuals and patterns) and with an increasing awareness of the poor working conditions of many commercial garment –makers and a desire to be self-sufficient, I began designing and sewing ethical and unique dresses, nerdy blouses and pretty panties. My upcycling adventures began with a doilie dress which you can see on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/FromLinenPressToDress. It has since exploded into a garment-a-week obsession with design and creation. I love the feeling of wearing something fitted and homemade that no one else owns and I hope to share that with you.

MY INSPIRATION

I draw my inspiration from a wide range of sources – creative friends and family members, music, women’s fashion from the 1920s-1970s, all things pretty, whimsical and feminine, artists such as James Jean and Mark Ryden and my hobbies – most of which revolve around drinking tea, reading and sitting in the sunshine with my dogs (enter wealthy partner who will one day support me to live like this all the time!).

YOU’RE AMAZING!

My favourite part of all this? All proceeds from garments go to the Himalayan Animal Rescue Team, a grass-roots charity that I support and work with in Nepal. It provides essential veterinary services and education to the human and animal community of Nepal free of charge, aiming to improve the conditions and welfare of animals and empower the community to improve human-animal relationships and decrease the occurrence of transmissible diseases. See our work at www.himalayananimalrescueteam.com

So by putting on a From Linen Press To Dress garment, you not only get that satisfied feeling of wearing something ethical and unique, you get the warm fuzzies for helping others in the process.

Thanks for stopping by!
