After retiring from teaching science in Baltimore County, my wife and I moved to Myrtle Beach to be close to the ocean and warmer winters. We live within walking distance to the Atlantic and both of us remain very active. I have always had a lot of hobbies and collecting rocks and minerals is among them. That led me to buying gem stones and learning to set the stones in silver or gold for the girls in my life.
I bought the stones and set them for several years when someone said that I should try to sell them. That is how GerstyGems was born. Because cut gem stones can be expensive, I began using gem beads to make earrings, bracelets, necklace,and pendants.
GerstyGems is "All Natural". That means that we use only gem stones that have been declared 'Natural' by our vendors. Natural to me mean not synthetic but can be treated in someway. Every piece is an original and made with the 'Natural' gems and various metals - gold, gold filled, silver, silver filled and sometimes, copper. You will always know which metal is used.
GerstGems is much more than a business for I am passionate about buying gemstones and setting them in various kinds of settings. I enjoy everything about the whole process - buying, setting the gems, taking their picture, describing the jewelry, posting on Etsy, corresponding with my customers, etc. It takes much time but I don't consider it work.
I only wish that I started GerstyGems a long time ago!!!
