Growing up, my dad and stepdad always explained to me what projects they were working on in the garage. Even though I was bored out of my mind at the time, that information must have stuck because I have a real passion for working with power tools and I especially love welding.
Shortly after narrowly surviving H1N1 in 2011 at age 45, I badgered my (now former) boyfriend to teach me how to weld. It was then that I discovered how creative I am, even though looking back, there were many clues along the way. Chronic depression and low self-esteem kept me from seeing them. That same man, who’s a wildly successful therapist in private practice, also helped me with those issues. We remain friends and I still ask for advice with welding and psychology.
At 16, I remember declaring to myself that I wanted to work for myself and be my own boss, even though I had no direction at the time. That dream has come true and now I do what I love for a living.

To enable personalized advertising (like interest-based ads), we may share your data with our marketing and advertising partners using cookies and other technologies. Those partners may have their own information they’ve collected about you. Turning off the personalized advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads or impact Etsy's own personalization technologies, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive.
