About

I started sewing when I was just a little girl with scraps from my mom's fabric bin. In addition to sewing, I'm also a graphic designer and screen printer, check out my t-shirts here: shilohthreads.etsy.com

Organic farming is my true passion...from 2008-2014, Island Provisions helped support Peace of the Earth Farm and allowed me to pursue organic farming full time. I've taken a break from full time farming but I still maintain my farm and hope to get back to it in the years to come. Though the farm is not in production for the public, we still produce lots of medicinal plants, asparagus, flowers, strawberries, and garlic. If you'd like to learn more about my farm, feel free to check it out: peaceoftheearthfarms.com

Island Provisions is a company of simplicity: I make products of a simple design in order to hold your stuff in a simple manner. I also value beautiful, creative and unique things that you're not going to encounter anywhere else.

Simple and practical design is the corner stone of my products. I always try to purchase raw materials locally and I have an emphasis on organic and reclaimed materials (something old made into something new). I feel that purchasing local, reclaimed and organic materials is better for our local communities and our world. There are plenty of used materials in the world waiting to be made into something useful and buying new materials is not always necessary. Since my products are handmade, they are also unique and contain their own intricacies and differences in materials.

Oh and by the way, most of my products have the added bonus of being vegan. Products that might not meet vegan standards usually contain wool yarn or wool fibers. Occasionally I acquire wool yarn from friends, family or thrift shops. Since I'm a farmer, I know a lot of people with sheep, llamas and other fiber producing creatures. I only use fiber for spinning that I know to be from humane sources. In order to help you make the best choice for your lifestyle I will always specify if a product is not vegan and I'll let you know where these non vegan items came from.

All products are designed, cut and sewn by Island Provision's delightfully small staff composed of yours truly and my unwavering husband. We want people to enjoy the practical beauty of items that are simple, unique, handmade and affordable.

There's one more reason to shop Island Provisions. I donate at least 5% of profits annually to Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center. Glen Helen is a 1000+ acre nature preserve located in Yellow Springs Ohio and is the home of an outdoor education center. This education center connects thousands of children each year to nature by offering a wide range of experiential learning opportunities right in the nature preserve! Experienced naturalists lead small trail groups on hikes through the preserve exposing children to forest ecology, local geology, local history, and much much more. The goal of the Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center is to plant the seeds of a lifelong interest in our environment and a lasting concern for its well-being. I will always hold a special place in our hearts (and our pocket book!) for Glen Helen. I am proud to officially help support this important non profit organization.
