About

My interest in textiles goes back to when I was a child and would watch my mother mend fishing nets; observing how she repeatedly wrapped and knotted the twine around the rope fascinated me. When I attended college at UW-Superior, my interest in textiles peaked again and I took up Fiber Arts and loom-weaving. It was the first time I was able to explore fabric as a way of expressing myself artistically. At first my designs were simple but I quickly began to explore color and design.
While loom-weaving was a wonderful way to produce beautiful work, I found it somewhat restrictive. I struggled to find ways of conveying my ideas but was disappointed with the results. While loom-weaving was a wonderful way to produce beautiful work, I found it somewhat restrictive. I struggled to find ways of conveying my ideas but was disappointed with the results. I was then introduced to a guest speaker at UW-Superior who was a quilting artist. She was able to achieve the smooth lines and color I was trying to attain. A month or so later I bought a sewing machine and went to work. Other than a class in middle school, I didn’t have anything to do with sewing. There were a few bumps but I delved in deeper and fell in love with sewing and quilting.
Photography is another passion of mine. Some of my recent work incorporates photos I have taken by transferring the image onto fabric with t-shirt transfers.
My education includes a Bachelors in Fine Arts-Fibers and a Masters in Arts-Photography. I currently live in Northern Wisconsin with my husband and am a stay-at-home mom to our son. My husband is also an artist and has supported my work through positive feedback and has lent a hand in several designs.
