Hello, and welcome!

My Etsy shop was born because of two events which occurred almost simultaneously - my retirement, and an inheritance of a boatload of vintage fabric. I can not sew, due to vision problems from an eye injury, but I love fabric! I love texture, color, and pattern. I could not allow all that beautiful material to end up at a thrift store or worse -a landfill.  I am having so much fun with this!

Etsy is a great market for those who collect things, whether buying or selling! What do I collect? Well, when I travel, I always pick up a souvenir mug. And socks. Yes, I collect socks. Cute, funky, or just plain weird - I love socks.

Hello, and welcome!

Etsy is a great market for those who collect things, whether buying or selling! What do I collect? Well, when I travel, I always pick up a souvenir mug. And socks. Yes, I collect socks. Cute, funky, or just plain weird - I love socks.

When I was a kid, I wanted a pet skunk. Every birthday and Christmas, I asked for a skunk. I usually received one, though it was never an actual living, breathing, animal. It was a skunk figurine or a stuffed skunk or a skunk wall plaque. Thus my first "collection" came into being. Sadly, most of my collection was lost during a move. I still miss those little stinkers!

At age 60, I am trying to learn to speak  French. My husband and I want to be able to speak the language when we visit our youngest daughter and her husband who live there. We hope to be able to visit every year. And my Etsy shop will help us get there.

Thank you for reading my story. I hope to get to know YOU, too! I have another shop which features my original art. Please pay it a visit at

I also curate a shop which benefits the Haysville Community Library Foundation. You can view it at www.etsy.com/shop/bettysbookshelf.com
