Birth, growth, death, (repeat). This is the beautiful and mysterious cycle of life that pulls me into the garden each spring, captivating my attention until the final, deadly frosts of fall.
In my ceramic work I am driven to permanently capture the seasonal beauty of nature’s forms and colors as well as the daydreams and fantasies they inspire. Coming to clay with a background in drawing and painting, I delight in the ability to wrap a sketch around a hand-made object. Wheel-thrown and hand-built terra cotta forms are transformed into functional pieces of art as I layer the surfaces with slips, custom-made glazes and hand-etched floral designs inspired by time spent in the rain forests of Costa Rica.
My sculptural, ceramic bud and tulip vases are clustered compositions of various hand-built floral forms meant to capture the fluidity, lushness and mystery of the garden. Whether…
