Throughout my life I have been a bit of a nomad since I was able to leave home. I think that might the inevitable when one grows up on an island in Southeastern Alaska. Jewelry has always been part of my travels. Before I made jewelry, I was a collector of jewelry that reflected the time I spent in certain locations. In my late teens and early twenties, I spent time working on yachts and small cruise ships as a deckhand. I always looked forward to the time when I got into port so that I could look for cool treasures. I only had a bunk to pack my things into, so I preferred small trinkets (jewelry). About

I wore a uniform, so I could only wear earrings. Necklaces can get stuck in machinery and mooring lines... though now I wear it all.

In the creation of my work, I am often inspired by the grand scale and vibrant colors of my native Southeastern Alaska as well as the beauty of the big skies and tall mountains of Colorado, where I now live. My family has lived in Alaska for more than eight generations. When I was a youth, I tried to capture the beauty that surrounded me and distill it into the tangible through paintings, sculpture, photography and jewelry.

Stemming from my own travels, I strive to create unusual, timeless pieces that act as mementos of different stages and times in ones life. In my studio, I handcraft each piece of jewelry using sterling silver, copper, brass and 14k gold-filled wire. I also create one-of-a-kind enameled jewelry. I oxidize and polish the sterling silver with my rock tumbler to give it more of a casual worn look. The result is high quality, distinctive work that stands the test of time.
