About

I received my BA in Studio Art/Painting from Western Washington University in 2009 and my MAED from the University of Nebraska, Kearney in 2011. I was born in Jackson, WY. Growing up with Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park in my back yard, I developed a colorful style of abstracted landscape and figurative painting. In addition to having many private collectors, I have been represented by multiple galleries in Jackson, WY and in addition have exhibited in New York City, NY and Bellingham, WA. I currently live and work in Denver, Colorado.

"My work is a collection of ideas and images that have followed me throughout my life. These ideas grow as I do. I gain inspiration from nature, society and history. Place, space and environment are the building blocks of what I like to paint. I am greatly affected by the places that I travel, the places I see and the places that I live. I like to talk about these environments through my work in order to start a dialogue about the human experience.

My latest TOTEM and URBAN series focus on the dichotomy between landscape and cityscape. I experiment with ideas of place in each series as TOTEM goes a bit further to explore identity as well. These paintings take on ideas of growth, femininity, and power while allowing natural history to tell the background story. The human experience as a whole becomes the main idea in my latest TOTEM pieces. What makes us who we are? How do our places and environments play a role in that makeup? What makes us grow?

Not only does URBAN play with juxtaposing ideas but TOTEM also plays with the dichotomy of identity and power. I was having strong urges to paint birds for the past few years. As time went on, I began to realize that these birds were self-portraits. I began adding crowns and antlers to these animals. This is where the feminine and masculine come into play. The crowns symbolize femininity and the antlers symbolize masculinity. I was subconsciously painting these creatures in their dream worlds all the while being very aware of the colors that I was using.

I use color as a bridge between vision and emotion when in a certain environment. I also use color to highlight a concept or create a visual space for the eye to rest and breathe for a moment. I don’t always know where I want the piece to go, but that is half the fun of being an artist. Line, color, and a story become the main visual focuses of my pieces, while identity in the world is the main conceptual focus of my work".

You can see my current work at Dwelling JH in Jackson, WY. I display my other pieces on my Etsy store. Feel free to stop in to see the work in person, online or give me a ring!
