About

Hello, welcome to Jim O’Reilly Photo shop. I’m a photographer based in the Portland, Maine area. I was born in New York City and my family moved around the east coast living for a time in upstate New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, before settling in Maine.

I studied mechanical engineering at the University of Maine where I earned a bachelor’s degree and also made lots of friends and had some great years.

I later studied jazz and contemporary music at the University of Maine at Augusta. I am a guitarist and bass player currently playing in a Portland-based rock ‘n roll band doing original and cover music.

I never really did the engineering thing, since college I’ve mostly played in bands and have held a variety of sales jobs. A job-related injury sidelined me for about three years before I slowly began regaining some of my abilities. It was probably this occurrence in my life, more than anything else, that brought about the notion of selling my photographs for a living.

Currently my prints are available for sale at farmers markets, art walks and a few other locations, in Portland, Maine. The fruit and vegetable shots turn a lot of heads at the farmer’s markets. There’s a humorous element about it.

Much of my work is landscape and nature photography although I do branch out into other subject matter as well. All of the photographs are printed and matted with archival quality materials. I hope that people enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them.
