Jennifer Irby's Profile

About

Welcome to J Irby Designs! All of my scarves are hand knit by me, Jennifer Irby (of J Irby Designs). I use high quality specialty yarns, much like you will find at your local yarn shop. I also use my own custom hand painted yarns that are not available in specialty yarn shops. My prices are set based on the cost of the yarns used, and many of my items are unique; many items are one of a kind.

I started selling my own line of handpainted yarns in the fall of 2004. I have developed my own colorways based on the nature that surrounds me both in Virginia and coastal North Carolina. I dye my yarns by hand in a small studio at my home. I handpaint the yarns in small quantities using Gaywool Dyes

I am a stay at home mom who started knitting at the age of 5. As I grew up, I was always the kid who had to have the largest box of crayons to color with, and I was designing fashions for my Barbies' before the age of ten. I have a BS degree in Clothing and Textiles from VA Tech with some undergraduate design work (my emphasis is Fashion Merchandising), and have always loved yarns and knitting. Prior to becoming a mom, I worked in retail merchandising and management in women's fashion apparel for both mid and high end stores. J Irby Designs was born from the idea and hope of wanting to use my talent, yet be able to stay home with my boys.
