Joanne Bowles' Profile
I am an artist maker working primarily in steel and porcelain. I am fascinated by the natural world and the endless possibilities of form and pattern that are produced. I am inspired by foreboding possibility, that anything can spring into something extraordinary at the right moment and given the correct conditions. My inspiration comes from structures of braches, light within woods, to underwater landscapes of corals and forms created by fungi and mosses. Line and contrast are continued themes running throughout my work.
My work is also process led and I have developed a love for working in steel. I work with techniques of hot forging and welding. I strive to bring different, unexpected qualities in to the steel, to make it appear fragile and temporary. I contrast this with my use of porcelain, using casting and hand building techniques. I try to bring lightness and space in to my work…
