I first learned about basket-making as a child in craft classes at an elementary school in England. There I, together with my twin brother, became so engrossed in making a large basket that the school almost ran out of supplies. In previous years little material was used since no children had taken to the craft.
Prior to retiring from teaching in 1998 I thought about what I could do other than golfing and gardening. I mentioned this childhood craft experiemce to my wife. For Christmas I received a book on basket-making. So this craft-making odyssey began.
I am primarily self-taught and puzzle over the American and English basket making terminology and techniques. When I am on vacation I seek out fellow basket-makers to learn from them.
