About

Hey all--

My name's Joy, and I'm currently the Twin Cities Program Coordinator for Ashoka (www.ashoka.org), which is a global network of social entrepreneurs. I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 2011, majoring in NonProfit Management, Entrepreneurial Studies, and minoring in Design.

I'm primarily a self-taught beader, although I've taken a few classes here and there. I've been beading for the last 12 or so years, worked at a bead store for 2 years, and started Joylery about 7 years ago. My stuff is also for sale around Stillwater, Andover, and St. Paul, Minnesota.

About

I'm dedicated to alleviating the suffering caused by domestic violence, so 100% of the proceeds of Joylery benefit the victims of domestic violence in Chimbote, Peru. Peru has the highest domestic violence rate globally at 70%. In Summer 2009, I visited Chimbote with a friend, and we led the production of a battered women's shelter. Summer 2010 was my second trip to Chimbote, where I continued my work with these women who live in an extremely male-dominated society with art programming and empowerment training. Please support this mission by considering a Joylery purchase.

I'm always open to suggestions, so let me know what you're feelin and what's on your mind!

Please see 'store policies' for any other information!

Peace.
