Jennifer Prince's Profile

About

I am an artist. I've tried to be other things, but always come back to art. So here I am -sharing that art with you on Etsy.

In college, while working on my BFA, I discovered fabric design. I took several classes and fell in love. I've recently re-awakened my obsession with silk - painting wall hangings and one of a kind scarves specifically. You can't beat the excitement of watching the colors merge and blend. And the bright, vibrant colors shimmering on the fabric is gorgeous. I hope you enjoy the end result as much as I enjoy the process!

A selection of my scarves can now be found at:
Red Clover Boutique in down town Savannah, GA.

DEFINITIONS OF TERMS USED IN DESCRIPTIONS:

RESIST - A substance that prevents the uptake or fixation of dye on a substrate (the silk!) in the areas where the resist has been applied.

BATIK - Derived from a Javanese word & describes a resist process using molten wax. Wax is removed from the silk by boiling or ironing.

BINDING - Bound and tied resists consist of fabrics that are tied, bound or knotted - thus constricting the cloth and preventing penetration during dyeing.

DISCHARGE - The removal of dye from the fabric to create a negative image. This also allows an over-dye to combine colors that would not ordinarily be achieved in standard dyeing methods.
