Janina Van Harberden's Profile

About

Hello, My name is Janina. I am the oldest child in a family of 10 (5 sisters and 4 brothers). I love them all to bits and miss them so much since I moved away from them. I hope to have an extra large family of my own someday. I have just married the man of my dreams. While he finishes University to become a Mechanical Engineer, I work as a Technical Records Clerk for a charter jet company.

With my free time (every single evening from 6-11 basically) I keep myself busy with sewing. I don't think I could ever give up quilting, it helps me de-stress and keeps me out of trouble most of the time. I love making quilts as gifts for my family and close friends. Each day after work and supper, I tidy up my sewing space to prepare for the evening of creativity, pick out a movie or show to watch (or should I say listen to) and I get to work…

How I got started:

5 years ago I started quilting, the first 3 years of that I spent working in a quilt shop. Each week (sometimes even daily) I would see something I liked and decide I needed it for a project. Many of these projects became "Maybe Someday Projects" and got packed away into boxes as I continued to collect fabric. By the time I moved, I had accumulated nearly 5 68L totes full of fabric (to my husbands horror). Now, I am slowly going through all my hidden/ forgotten treasures and am trying to put it all to good use, although if you yourself do any sort of crafting or creating you know that this will never happen. Here is to hoping. Meanwhile though, I am buying little pieces at a time to add to my pretty stash in my studio.

I am always looking to try new things and lately have been designing my own quilts and quilt blocks and have been hoping to get one of my blocks published in a quilt magazine. I am currently learning how to foundation paper piece and I am loving it. If you want a quilt that has precise points, intricate looking work soon I will have all the skills necessary to tackle the project with no fear whatsoever.

At the moment my main goal is to become an authorized teacher for BeColourful (http://www.becolourful.com/the-rainbow-collection.html). I am in love with these quilts and want to make them all. I am excited to start working towards this as I expect to spend 2-4 years working towards this.
