I have always had a curiosity about how things work.
In third grade I sought out grapevines to attempt to make baskets and newspaper, wire and glue to form paper mache' horses. The Arts and Crafts sections of our family encyclopedia were consulted. Some of the answers came from the materials themselves.
As an art teacher, I have explored, mastered and presented media to my students in order to provide interesting venues for their creativity. Today the search continues.
I find one idea flows into another. A wooden shuttle becomes a ground for a painting of sheep in pastures or perhaps heirloom vegetables with their vines twining about its form. A Pastor's Liturgical Stole is connected by threads of its embroidery to a text from the Testaments. A Saddle Blanket bears the tapestry woven emblem of the horse's country of origin.
