Born in Falls Church, VA, I was raised by my mother, a painter and decorator, and my father, a journalist and 'failed cartoonist.' While I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil, I never truly considered it an occupation, but mused with the ideas of teaching or writing. By 9th grade in High School, however, I was drawn to science, and went on to get a Bachelor's in Chemistry from St. Andrews Presbyterian College and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Wake Forest University. As my studies in science progressed, art got pushed further and further away, until, when in graduate school, it pushed back. As a graduate student, I was tired, starving, miserable and alone, which was the perfect condition to thrive as an artist. With this new perspective, I have gone on with my art in new directions. I currently live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with my wonderful husband, nearly grown but wonderful kids, and three dogs.
