About

I truly love and appreciate the creative process of crafting wearable art. Often when I begin working I have no idea what the end result will be. But the textures, shapes and colors of my glass, silver, vintage and reclaimed materials, gemstones, metals and African trade beads almost speak to me, and I just follow where they lead. The fact that I can create beautiful things every day feels like a gift and fills my heart with joy.

I personally craft each and every piece in my Chicago-area studio and take pride in my attention to detail, using only quality beads and findings. (Okay, I admit to being a perfectionist!) I'm lucky enough to be in business with my daughter, Jessica, who is my photographer, social media guru and marketing manager at Shagbark Road. We have had such a fantastic time working together and can't wait to share our passion with you!

Our name was influenced by the stately shagbark hickory trees that shelter our home. Each tree has very unusual bark, and no two are exactly alike. That is what I strive for in every piece I make as well – unique and distinctive “wearable art” that flatters the wearer and reflects her sense of style and good taste.
