Hi! My name is Kara Thomas and I am a student in the BFA program at the College for Creative studies in Detroit, MI. I enjoy all types of processes and materials. The following is my artist statement from my most recent body of work.

The idea that life is a repeating cycle is a motif throughout my functional and sculptural forms. I enjoy finding parallels between the reproductive system of both plants and mammals. The way they relate to each other to me is just another pattern in life. These relationships inspire me to design repeat patterns as a way to communicate the excitement I feel about new life forms. With prints of seeds, flowers, and the female reproductive system my clay work, I am able to bring my creations to life. Persian rugs, which often reflected the rebirth of spring, also influence my pottery. As each new piece is made, I see it as a parent in a long generation of…
