About

I have always loved making things with my hands which has led me to indulge in way too many hobbies. Knitting is probably the one I have spent the most time in and my yarn stash tells me it is probably the one I have invested the most money in too.

Everyday I wear or carry something that I have made as a signature statement -- it might be just a belt, or a pair of earrings, but could be my bag or a sweater. Strangers have often complimented me and said "You should start a business" and so I have. I also want to make a small contribution in reducing my impact on the planet by using mostly sustainable resources in my business, therefore I chose to use bamboo for the gauges.

GAUGE STANDARDS: I base my knitting and crochet gauges on the standards set by the Craft Yarn Council of America and posted at www.yarnstandards.com. However, there are many knitters who have collected some needles that are not mentioned on that chart, such as the very small 8-0 or the "in between" sizes. I offer gauges that also meet these knitter's needs. The holes on the gauges are sized exactly to the metric measurement labeled. I will definitely accommodate requests for metric sizes popular in other countries. My Stitch Gauge Rules are also available in 5cm, 10cm and 15cm sizes upon request.

Knitter's Rule Gauges: I have tested the holes against many different commercial brands of knitting needles (some brand new and some several years old) and not all needles are the size they are labeled. For example, I have an old pair of straight knitting needles made from a flexible white plastic with a metal head clearly labeled as a size 6. These needles will not fit through the size 6 hole, but they do fit through the size 7. When I try several other brands of size 6 needles, both circular and straight, and dpns, also different materials, metal, woods, plastic -- these do fit the size 6 hole. When I compare the white needles side by side to the ones that did fit it is visibly obvious that the white ones are much thicker and actually measure out to be a size 7 needle. Gauges are helpful in confirming that the size of the needles, either commercial or handmade are accurate in their sizing. This also confirms the importance of not only testing the size of your needles but also that you should make swatches to check your stitch gauge and change needle sizes if necessary, especially if the size of the knitted garment needs to be accurate.

Hooker's/Crocheter's Rule Gauges: All the commercially made crochet hooks from various brands I have are well marked, however most of them do not fit in the holes in the sizes indicated -- the hooks are larger than the shaft which I believe is the correct size. However, the handmade hooks in my collection from different artisans, do fit perfectly into the hook gauge in their respective hole sizes. The crochet hook gauges are very useful for anyone collecting handmade hooks.

CUSTOM ORDERS:
I love doing custom orders so if you have an item in mind that isn't currently for sale in the shop just convo me (such as the stitch gauges in 5cm or 10cm sizes instead of 2 inches and 4 inches). I can do coordinating sets of gauges, WPI and sox bobbins also. Take a look through the sold items for ideas. I will need to know your preferences for bamboo (natural or smoked), designs and colors. Prices are the same as for non-custom orders and the turn around time is currently about 10 weeks, sometimes less. You pay after the order is complete and you have approved of the photos. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. I can happily accommodate your metric needs for those of you living outside of the US. You can also visit my Flickr account at www.flickr.com/photos/karatstix.

SHIPPING:
I ship by USPS First Class mail in bubble envelopes by default. If you prefer another carrier/faster shipping please convo me to get a shipping quote before purchasing items. I do sell internationally, and the standard shipping rate I charge is listed with the item in the shipping section. Delivery confirmation is not available for international mail. The actual price of the items is required on the customs form and you will be responsible for any duties charged at your end.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!
I also offer a satisfaction guarantee -- if you are not happy with your purchase please notify me within 7 days after receiving it and you can return it for a full refund, however you pay for the return shipping.
